I’ve always loved visiting foreign countries. My first trip abroad was when I was five and I flew in a plane to Venezuela with my mum. My next big trip was to Argentina when I was eleven to visit Mum’s family in Cordoba. Since then I’ve visited many different countries in Europe, including Spain, France and Germany. But there was always one country I never had the chance to visit, and that was Italy.

Well, can you guess where I’ve just been? Rome, in Italy! I flew there last Sunday with my parents and came back on Thursday. Since then I’ve put loads of photos on Facebook and I’ve told all my friends about it. It was only a short trip, but it gave me the chance to do all the things I’ve wanted to do for so long. So, here’s what we did!

On our first day we went to the Colisseum. This enormous round building has stood in Rome for nearly two thousand years. In its early days, people watched fights there between people and wild animals! Thankfully most visitors only want to walk around and take selfies now!

We also visited the beautiful Palatine Hill. The Roman emperors built enormous palaces there. Today, most of the buildings have gone, but it is still a beautiful, peaceful place, with wonderful views of the city.

We visited the Trevi Fountain, too. This is a beautiful work of art – an intricate sculpture with water pouring from it into a pool below ... except that when we went, there was no water ... only tourists ... taking selfies ...

In between Rome’s famous buildings there are, of course, hundreds of tiny streets and squares where you can sit and have a coffee, or a gelato – that’s Italian for ice cream! I spent a lot of time eating ice cream, and watching the crowds of tourists as they walked by. We even met a famous person: an English footballer sat down at the table next to ours in a cafe. I took a great photo of him!
